About Little Butterflies Nursery
At Little Butterflies Nursery we aim to provide a happy, safe and stimulating environment for children to explore, investigate and learn. We believe that by providing support, praise and encouragement, the children will be able to flourish and reach their full potential.
To ensure the best possible start for the children we follow a play based approach to learning in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. By closely observing the interests of our children, our practitioners are able to create a fun, stimulating and meaningful learning environment that sparks curiosity and encourages independence.

We also enjoy baking and cooking with our Little Butterflies and love to eat our tasty treats!
If your child has any dietary requirements please inform a member of staff and we can find an alternative.
Your Child's Progress
Sharing your children's progress and achievements are vitally important to us. There are a range of ways that we communicate your child's progress with you:
- Weekly updates/ monthly newsletters
- Termly parent/ teacher consultations
- Seesaw - Our online Learning Journeys: We will create a secure account with the details you provide us which enables us to upload photographs, observations and reports relating to your child's time with us. As a parent this allows you to view exciting achievements via a computer or smart phone.

April
We love The Hungry Caterpillar story in the Little Butterflies. The children all join in while we read the story. We haver been very lucky and Helen's very talented Aunty has made us our very own Hungry Caterpillar story sack. We have set it up in the tuff tray and the children love it. We have been watching them retell the story to their friends and making the hungry caterpillar eat all the food.

March
We have had a special visitor this month, Helen brought her dog Autumn in as our topic is Animal Madness. We have been learning about how to look after our pets. We all took Autumn out for a lovely walk and even gave her some treats ! We went to Barley mow park with the afternoon children and the morning children walked Autumn down the beach. All the children were very gentle with her and also had a turn at holding her lead.
Well done to everyone !

February
We have been very busy this month in the Little Butterflies. We have been out exploring our local area, we have walked along the beach top, walked to our local park, visited our local bakery to find gingerbread men linked with our core book and visited the Urban Garden.
In nursery we have made some beautiful Valentine's day cards and we joined all the big boys and girls at the school disco.
We had some yummy pancakes, the children were given a variety of topping to try I think the syrup and chocolate chips were the favourite.
We have learnt all about Chinese New Year, we made some lovely lanterns, read the story about all the different animals and we finished off with some yummy taste testing.
Well done Little Butterflies !

January
We welcomed some new Little Butterflies this month, they have settled amazingly and adapted to our routine straight away. We are so proud of them !
We have focused on developing our fine motor skill this month through a variety of different activities such as mark making in porridge oats using the paint brushes, using the pipettes to add colour into the glue, dough disco and many more . We have been showing the children how to hold their pencil. We are very impressed at our Little Butterflies pencil grip. Everyone had fun mark making in their special journal, it was lovely to hear about all the different things they were drawing.

December
We have had such a magical month full of Christmas activities. We had a fun Christmas workshop, the children loved having their special adult come into nursery. We walked up to our local sweet shop, inside they have a special post box for Santa. We posted our very important letters to Santa. We all took part in our first ever nativity it was called the Twinkly Nativity. We had lots of fun and everyone did an amazing job learning all the songs and the actions.
We hope you all have a magical Christmas.

November
This month the children have loved listening to our new core story "Peace at Last" they have been using their listening ears and can now join in at the repeated phrases of the story. I think their favourite part is when Mr Bear says "Oh no, I can't stand this!"
We made some delicious teddy bear toast using chocolate spread, bananas, blueberries and strawberries. The children explored and tried each fruit to see which one they liked best.
We have also been developing our listening and speaking skills by playing "What's that noise?" The children have had to listen carefully to sounds from the story such as Mr Bear snoring, the cats meowing and the clock ticking and then identify them using pictures or using their big voices.

October
This month we have been on an Autumn walk to our local park Backhouse Park. We explored the park and found some acorns and big leaves. We put them in a bag to bring back to nursery to add into our autumn tray. We went on an adventure around the park walking up the big steps and even sitting in a tree ! We had lots of fun and can't wait to go back next term to walk around the fairy trail.

September
We have had such a busy month welcoming back and settling in our new Little Butterflies. It has been so lovely getting to know our new children and their families and seeing how much our returning Butterflies have flourished over the summer holidays. We have been reading our core stories "Owl Babies" and "Families" We have started to have a mini PE session in the hall, the children have loved this and will be superstars at it by the time they get to big nursery ! Such a great start to the new school year, we can't wait to see what the Little Butterflies get up to this year.
