Uniform

Our full Uniform Policy is here.

We encourage the wearing of uniform, as we believe it promotes teamwork and a positive attitude. Our uniform is smart and comfortable, and also - importantly - affordable and good value.

There are 2 ways you can get uniform items, and the choice is entirely yours:

  1. From 'The School Outfit'. All uniform items are stocked, and the tops have embroidered badges. The uniform is good quality and excellent value. The High Street West shop has now closed, however uniform items can be purchased online, and can be delivered either to the customer's home. Or, the customer can pick-up from the factory in Washington (11-12 Brockwell Road, Crowther Industrial Estate, Washington, NE38 0AF, Tel 0191 416 8889 or 0191 4194616). The website is here.
  2. If you prefer, you can purchase uniform from local shops and supermarkets. Asda - our local store - sell good quality and great value school clothing. We sell loose iron-on badges for just £1.50 each (available from the school Office).

Please note that we do not stock uniform in school, and we do not take orders. The School Outfit handles all orders (or of course you have the option of local shops & supermarkets).

Our uniform is as follows:

Girls

  • Royal blue sweatshirt, v-neck jumper or cardigan.
  • Polo shirt (white or sky blue) /  or traditional collared white shirt.
  • Grey or black skirt or trousers, or grey/black dress/pinafore – note that an acceptable summer alternative would be a blue gingham dress.
  • Black shoes. See notes that follow, on footwear.
  • Boots are fine in winter – see the notes that follow.
  • Socks should be plain white, plain grey or plain black.
  • Tights – if tights are worn, they should be black or grey.

Boys

  • Royal blue sweatshirt, v-neck jumper or cardigan.
  • Polo shirt (white or sky blue /  or traditional collared white shirt.
  • Grey or black shorts or trousers.
  • Socks should be plain grey or plain black.
  • Black shoes. See notes that follow on Footwear.
  • P.E. See PE section that follows.

Footwear

  • Black, smart school shoes should be worn. Though trainers are not part of our day-to-day uniform, we do realise that some shops (e.g. Asda) are now producing black school footwear which is like a cross between a shoe and a trainer - those are fine and can be worn for school
  • Please note that coloured or striped trainers, or trainers with branding (Nike, Adidas, etc) are not permitted for day-to-day wear around school. For health and safety reasons, shoes with platform soles or high-heels are not permitted
  • Note that trainers can be worn on a PE Day, if you wish – see PE section below.

P.E. Kit

  • Plain black or navy shorts and a plain white T-shirt.
  • Not permitted: Football tops, fashion items, and multi-coloured or striped shorts.
  • The children can wear trainers to school on their PE day – however black plimsolls are required for indoor P.E. sessions – this protects our hall floor. The plimsolls will stay in school, in a PE bag (or plastic shopping bag).
  • Some girls are wearing PE skirts with ‘built-in shorts’ (skorts!) – these are fine as an alternative to regular shorts, and if worn should be plain black or plain navy.
  • Girls – Plain black or navy leggings are an option for PE, as are plain black or navy ‘cycling shorts’ (Asda do these for £4 for 2 pairs)
  • On PE Days, the children can wear their PE kit for school, if they wish, with jogging bottoms in plain black or plain navy, plus their normal school jumper or our new option – a navy-blue hoodie (badged version, or un-badged version). Trainers can be worn to school on PE days.
  • If PE is outdoors: jogging bottoms in plain black or plain navy, school jumper or school navy blue hoodie (or plain navy-blue hoodie)
  • PE kit is available from The School Outfit and is also available from a range of retailers – including our local Asda. The School Outfit t-shirts have the school badge; however any plain white t-shirt is fine. The t-shirts in Asda are excellent value. Black shorts are available from The School Outfit, and in Asda. Girls can either wear regular plain shorts, or the ‘cycling’ style shorts available from Asda. Some girls are wearing PE skirts with ‘built-in shorts’ – these are fine as an alternative to regular shorts, as long as they’re black. Leggings are fine for girls – again though these must be plain black.

P.E. - to sum-up:

Indoor PE

  • Plain white t-shirt
  • Boys/girls - Plain black or navy shorts
  • The ‘skirt shorts’ are fine for girls, as long as they are black or navy.
  • Girls – Plain black or navy leggings are an option, as are plain black or navy ‘cycling shorts’ (Asda do these for £4 for 2 pairs).
  • Black plimsolls.

  • This will have the school badge, and will be navy blue.
  • Families can get their child’s initials on the front, if you wish, for an extra £1.
  • Only to be worn on PE days or for visits to sporting events.
  • As an alternative, an un-badged navy hoodie can be purchased from Asda (or similar) – plain and non-branded please!

Choir

We have introduced a new GPS Choir polo shirt, in purple. All members of the choir were given one, free, in June 2025. These can be worn for school on the day that lunchtime Choir Club is on, and can also be worn to special Choir events and outings. Replacement choir shirts, or extra shorts, can be purchased from The School Outfit (for a charge).

Hairstyles

  • The school does not permit children to have ‘extreme’ or unconventional haircuts that could serve as a distraction to other children. This includes spiking, shaving, patterned shaving (e.g. lines or zig zags etc), and having false extensions.
  • Dyed hair is not permitted in school.
  • Long hair should be tied back, away from the face.

Jewellery

  • For health and safety reasons jewellery must not be worn for school. This includes bracelets, necklaces and earrings. No piercings of any type are permitted.
  • Previously, we have allowed stud ear-rings, but please note that from September 2025, stud ear-rings are not permitted. That means that – from September 2025 - no ear rings or ear jewellery of any kind is permitted, including stud ear-rings. Piercings are not permitted.
  • Watches are allowed, but please note that these must be removed for PE. Please note that we do not permit Smart Watches (internet linked, audio, camera, etc) to be worn, just basic analogue or simple digital watches. Please be aware that we cannot be held responsible for watches or any other items of jewellery brought into school.

Nails / Make-Up / Tattoos

  • We do not permit nail polish, nail extensions, gel nails or make-up. Also, some children have taken to using the “temporary tattoos” – these are not permitted for school.
